Yeah, the fact it was an anti-violence campaign on African child soldiers I thought that was clear from the orignial poster.

I think the thing that the OP touched on is taht the ad in question (kids shooting AKs), isn't as shocking and evil as the producers would want it to be. Typical anti-gun attitude of being unable to separate shooting paper to killing. It's impossioble for many people to separate forcing a kid to kill for a warlord and showing a kid how to shoot with his father's gun.

There are dwindling number of summer camps where kids shoot .22s now...

Evidently not obvious enough to prevent some Torontonians from bounding into self-righteous, spittle-flying fits of vandalism:

Some Torontonians didn't realize the blue, tree-motif posters were a hoax. Sarah Heywood told CBC News that she flew into a rage when she saw the ads on Queen Street West.

"It just brought up so much anger in me," Heywood said. "I immediately thought, wow, this is real, this is happening, people are now actually providing these kinds of services and opportunities for people who actually allow their children to go and experience something like that here in Canada."

She said she was so upset that she ripped down all the Camp Okutta signs that she encountered during the afternoon, "until my fingers were actually sore from tearing at the tape and ripping them off."

I don't see anything wrong with teaching your kid what are unfortunately necessary life skills in the dangerous world we live in.

Training children to fight and die for pointless wars is another thing, though.

I remember when I went to scout camp. We had a rifle range that everyone loved to go to. The range master was even a former DI so he brought AR's in, in addition to the bolt 22's. I doubt you will see that at many camps now...

Honestly, my co worker and his wife starting shooting Russian AK's with the happy switch at about 11 years of age... Here in N. America, the site of that would make your average person just about poop themselves, back where they are from, Ethiopia, it is an everyday thing, teach the kids to shoot what firearms they will come across in daily life...

Man I would have loved that camp when I was a kid. I don't know about the grenades though guns are a bit safer. If only it was real. :)
