I have noticed that .30 carbine diameter cast bullets (110 gr) are advertised as .308-.309 inches. Can these be shot in a 30-06 rifle?

Yes.
But only at reduced velocity.
Unless they are gas check, plan on keeping them under 1,800 FPS or so.

You would have better success with .309" cast bullets in a .308 barrel though.

Yeah, they'll fit in a .30-06 case and go through the barrel, but there's many much better suited bullets out there for the .30-06. No reason to even try, IMO.

Cast 110 gr. bullets work very well with 2.7gr. of Bullseye in the 30-06. No noise, no recoil, and very accurate. I have been using these since the 70's.

At 2.7 gr I hope you have a cleaning rod handy to beat the bullets out of the barrel.

I've used 4gr of Clays with a Lee 113gr RNFP cast lead(in 308win), until one stuck in the barrel (I was shooting downward from a ridge tho).
6gr worked better but wasn't as quiet.

And 11gr of Trailboss gives me good accuracy(around half inch at 50yds) with a Lee 160gr CTL-2R .312", 15gr TB is about max for a 308win case(30-06 will fit a little more).

If your loading with rifle powders you'll need gaschecks, even with most of the reduced loads.

This will be for a reduced charge plinking load for my 10 year old son, who has recently taken an interest in centerfire rifle shooting.

Thanks for the advice folks.
