Just as the title says, can 6.8 SPC fit into AR-15 mags? Particularly P-Mags. I understand that the capacity won't be the same, that is no big deal, but I didn't know if you needed different mags entirely.

I was considering getting an 6.8 SPC AR from LMT with a monolythic rail system. Seen here

I guess really the only draw backs (other than price of ammo) is that they have a 5.56 for almost the same price that is piston driven, and this 6.8 is not.

Anyhow, main point, do the rounds fit in a standard 5.56 mag?

They will go in but do not feed reliably. I have heard that you MIGHT be able to get it to work with just 3 or 4 rounds but beyond that they tend to bind.

6.8 magazines are not that rare or expensive. My wife ordered me ten C-Products 6.8 magazines for Christmas. She paid $12.95 each at 44MAG.com.

The 6.8 was designed specificly for the AR platform, but you will need new magazines.

Lucky for us, 6.8 and 6.5 became popular the same time cheap mags went out of style. Meaning that all the brands of 6.8 mags are pretty good. No cheepos out there (yet).

6.8 magazines are constructed of steel or stainless steel for a reason. My understanding is the P-Mag design is NOT robust enough for 6.8.

Are the 6.8 and 5.56 mags the same (on the outside) and interchangable as far as the lower housing?
