Title says it all...just picked it up today, will anything get damaged dry firing? I know some revolvers you aren't supposed to dry fire without snap caps.
Thanks.
Jon

According to the owners manual - yes.

Some of the very best shooters and gunsmiths I know say its fine to dry fire most centerfire actions. Some of the very best shooters and gunsmiths I know say never dry fire anything without snap caps. I am not a great shooter or any sort of gunsmith, so the only answer I can give you is from the Ruger manual.

Alright, good! Mine didnt come with a manuel or anything else for that matter lol. I guess I'll use some precaution and just keep it to a minimum

I use dummy rounds for practice & glue a pencil eraser in the primer pocket, but that`s just me though.

I even got a dummy round to let my rifle pins down on .

I did take a magic marker & color em blue!!

When the Security Six first came out, Ruger toured the gun shows/trade shows with a Security Six in a machine that constantly dry fired the gun, thousands and thousands of times to prove the strength of the gun, that it could withstand the pounding no problems. However, I never dry fire ANY firearm without snap caps. I'm sorta paranoid of it.

When I worked for a jet engine company in another life, a tool and die designer once told me the following. Parts have a finite life. Every time you perform an operation you effect its life and tolerances by one operation. I have made it a habit of only dry firing for a reason(not just to disperse liberal newscasters):neener: and when I dry fire I use snap caps. Just my nichol's worth.

You can probably download a manual from the Ruger website. If your gun is older, the manual may not be exact, but it should give you some insight to your revolver.

I do dryfire my revolvers, but not too much.

The Ruger centerfire revolvers have no problems as far as dry firing. I have own or owned just about every Ruger revolver from SA to DA. I have dry fired many times without a problem. If you want to buy some snap caps to ease your concern thats good. But I can't recall anybody ever having a problem breaking a firing pin or transfer bar by dry firing.

Rugers are that strong!

Good luck,
