I put this in legal but I want to bring it up here. I would be interested in sharing my BP with many of you and vise-verse. Is there a legal - simple and cost effective - way of doing this?

Shipping loose powder would require a HAZMAT fee.... and I suspect there are additional restrictions on transferring non-commercial powder.

If I'm not mistaken, a HAZMAT fee is not required for shipping loaded ammo. I guess you could pour a couple ounces of BP into a 20mm case and seat a practice projectile on top - that would only require a ORM-D sticker on the package?

Then how come a box of .22 shipped will cost you 20 bucks in shipping? I think it does entail a hazmat charge, but maybe I'm wrong. But, when I order ammo, I always pay 20 bucks, even from ammotogo.com which is just up the road 60 miles from me.

You've just had really bad luck with vendors overcharging. There is no hazmat on loaded ammo. It does need to be properly marked though.

Example: a box of .22LR from Palmetto State Armory to me shows an $8.50 shipping charge.

Interesting. I will make some calls. Considerable differences in the Legal forum.

If you are driving from here to there and have some BP and drop it off with a friend, that is not considered commercial transport.
Using any sort of delivery service is, Basically, Shipping BP, and will require a hazmat fee.

Unfortunately, trying to load ammunition to get around it puts you in the realm of manufacturing ammuntion, requiring a whole 'nother set of FFL licenses & fees.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news

Thanks all. I know there are several of you who make your own. And of course there are all the varieties. Now pucking and grinding. I am at a loss how to empiricalize all of our results. I'd like to duplicate your results as well as you be able to replicate mine. So it seemed to me that the best way was to share. Then you would be able to compare "mine" against "yours". Or an unknow against a known. We all can't shoot cannonballs into the air and go, "Darn near made it to heaven! must otta be some good stuff!" Sounds way too potentially litigious to share. Sigh... Ideas?
