Can you clean and relube cast boolits ???

I have aqquired hundreds of cast bullets over the past few weeks and some of them are a mess . The good ones seem to have been lubed then put into empty ammo trays from discarded ammo boxes and are excellent . Some of the bad ones have been rolling around in plastic bags and old carboard boxes and are a mess . Wonder if anyone has a trick to be able to cleaqn and relube them. Can I wipe them down lightly with something and then maybe hand rub a little of Lees tumble lube on the load bearing surface and call it good or what ??? thanks for viewing. 10 SPOT

Assuming the old lube is falling off, or dirty.

I'd lay them on a newspaper and melt the rest of the old lube off with a heat-gun or the wifes hair-dryer.

Then, after they cool off, re-lube them with Lee Liquid Alox, following the directions on the bottle.

(If I didn't have a Lyman Lubrisizer)

I would inspect them closely before trying to reuse them, since the lube has a tendency to pick up dirt and debris, which can scratch the bore of your firearm. If they've been stored where the dirt and dust can't get to them, and the lube is just messy, then they can be restored as rc indicated. If there's any doubt about dirt, etc., being imbedded in the old lube, then I would remelt them into other bullets, since all the contaminents will float to the top of the melt and can be skimmed off.

WOW !!! A post where everyone agrees ! I am liking this and will of course follow your advice and see if I can annoy the wife this evening for a couple of hours while I use her fancy hair dryer to melt bullet lube ! Thanks for helping me out guys . 10 SPOT

Another way to remove all the lube is to simply boil the bullets. The lube will melt off and float to the top. Last time I did it I just tossed them in an old coffee can and put it on the Coleman stove outside. Just in case there was any odor.

Bingo! Further, let them cool down until the lube hardens, then just remove the lube "cake" like a layer of ice in a bucket. The boolits will be clean when dried.
