On the Rock River Arms receiver, is there some special trick to removing the bolt release pin.
The only instructions I have seen show a 3/32 punch tapping it out from breech to muzzle. But the thing wont budge! Do you have to puch the lever, put it on fire, say 'abracadabra'?
Seems simpe enough but...

Make sure to use the right sized punch, secure the reciever, and whack it really hard! I also like to tape up anything I don't want a mark on.

Sometimes those pins peen over a bit when they are driven in. Because they are steel and the reciever is aluminum, they may dig in and be hard to unseat. Good pentrating lube, the right sized punch and a willingness to beat the snot out of your pride and joy can help contribute to success.

Be careful of the finish however, it is really easy to slip!

Remove the pin by tapping left to right, (muzzle to breech).
Use a roll pin punch and the special roll pin punch that Brownells offers is the best tool for the job.
You are remembering to put finger pressure on the bolt release spring while you are removing the roll pin right?
If you don't take the spring pressure off the roll pin, that pin will never budge.

yeah!

Now that's what I need right there, yesirree.

No, I wasn't putting pressure on the bolt release lever. And I probably wasn't whacking it hard enough for the exact rreason of not scratching the finish.

Next time I see the thing, I will give it another more informed try.

Thanks!

It worked!

Excelsior!

Sure glad I didn't just lose my patience and do something more permanent.
Thanks all!
