I know that some people and LE agencies adapt thier carry ammo for different times of the year.

For example, in the summer carry JHP's and in the winter carry FMJ's.

Are there good things about this or is it just personal preference?

It gets pretty cold here in Iowa in the winter time and a lot of the "thugs" and rifraff wear some pretty bulky coats. I am concerned with penetration in this instance.

Thanks.

I think it is pretty silly.
The worst that can happen is that the hollowpoint will plug with material from the coat... and penetrate like a FMJ.
But if you want reassurance, TRY IT YOURSELF.
An old coat wrapped around a bag of trash to give it some backing will soon show you do not have anything to worry about on penetration of winterwear.

Or that you do, in which case that is not an inhabitable planet.

Ok, thanks.

I was just wondering. I think that my chosen and tried and true (1000+ rounds with not even one failure or misfire or anything) with my carry piece should be sufficient to stop most attackers (cor bon 115gr 9mm +P).

Police departments change ammo with the seasons? Curious, who and where? From what to what??

Thanks.

I live and work in NH and do not know of an department of up here that changes ammo in the winter and summer.

"Police departments change ammo with the seasons? Curious, who and where? From what to what??"

Ya beat me to the question.
I'd like to know where FMarlon heard and "knows" this. Never heard of such by any LEA. It's just silly.

I've never heard of police departments changing ammo with the seasons . . . I have heard of them changing brands of ammo with each "buy" based solely on saving something like 0.0000001 cents per round.
