Don't crucify me here if this is a dumb question. I'm new to carrying handguns.

Is it safe to carry my Ruger P94 with the safety off? I have a Kel-Tec P11 whose only safety feature is a DAO 8lb trigger and the hammer is recessed into the gun to keep if from getting snagged. My Ruger has a heavy DA trigger pull (I'd say about 8 lbs) but does not have the hammer recessed.

The reason I ask is that I fear that in a self-defense situation in which I have to use my gun very quickly, I may forget to disengage the safety, and lose precious seconds trying to get it flipped. That's why I like my P11. I don't have to worry about remembering.

Any thoughts?

I vote safety on. That's why I like de-cockers instead.
I think the trigger is blocked with the safety off still, but too many weird things happen.

Well, it is a decocker and safety. It decocks the hammer if it's in SA, and covers the firing pin as well, so it's both. Maybe all decockers have both functions. I don't know. I'm new to handguns.

It is intended to be carried safety off, in a holster that covers the trigger.

I always carry double action pistols with round chambered, safety off, and decocked hammer down ready for DA fire so it has the same manual of arms as a revolver.

There are several passive safety features that keep the gun from going off if dropped and the gun will not fire without the trigger being pulled after you overcome the heavier DA pull, IMO there's no added safety to having the manual safety engaged and as you noted there is the potential of not taking it off when needed in a stressful situation.

Saw a video once of a store owner who drew his semi auto and tried to shoot an armed robber but failed to take off the safety. The robber shot him with his revolver several times.

My Rugers, P97DC and P95DC, are both de-cock only and I carry them with one in the tube and hammer down (obviously!). I don't like manual safeties on DA-SA semi-auto pistols and wouldn't own one. De-cock only is far superior in my opinion.
