Ive been thinking on this for a while now. how much difference is there between the dimensions of the cylinder star/ratchet on the actual bp cylinder that comes with your revolver and the dimensions of the star/ratchet on the gated cartridge converter from kirst, and on the richards mason cartridge guns sold by uberti?

I was just thining about that because looking at the kirst patent makes itlook like the star/ratchet was given a smaller diameter.

The rachet, on the R&D cylinder for the Remington is the same as the cap & ball. The Kirst rachet is smaller in outside diameter, but the hand is tucked in pretty close to the cylinder pin on a Remington. I have early Kirst 45 cylinders, and had trouble with the very small tooth caused by the staggered position of the tooth for the 6th "safe" solid chamber. Apparently others have not had the same problem, perhaps it was an early problem, or a problem with the dimensions of my guns. I have them running OK now.

The Colt type cylinders have the same ratchet tooth size as the cap & ball . The cylinder arbor is larger than the Remington and the pocket it sits in controls the outside diameter.
