Three questions.

I have a Savage 112 in .308.

I trim brass to the minnimum legenth every time it is reloaded, after firing it is past the maximum legenth. Is this normal?

Does anyone tumble thier brass after depriming, sizing and trimming but before repriming? (for the purpose of removing lube and shavings from inside the cartrige)

For some reason my media is getting stuck inside of my brass (like the brass is wet inside) is this a common problem, how do you remove is without globing up the case neck brush?

Try puting a dryer sheet in when you tumble maybe static electricity is causeing that.

Measure your brass after firing, then sfter resizing. The growth probably occurs during resizing. Reason: First, you likely have a somewhat generous chamber, the brass expands slightly, when its squeezed back down, it gets longer. The expander ball being yanked out thru the case neck also tends to stretch it. As well as jerk it cockeyed...:cuss: . I'm making the presumption that you FL resize here, since neck sizing tends to not do this as much.
After you trim 'em 5 times, toss 'em, the brass is getting thin.

Yeah, I know, *** wants fat brass...:what:

Phonix,
If you are full-length sizing - STOP IT! If you are neck sizing then you should reduce your load. It is not normal for brass to grow that fast. Before you load any more, take the weapon to smith and have the headspace checked. If everything checks out then just stop working the brass more than you need to. Neck sized cases fit the chamber and will not allow growth if pressures are not excessive.

Thanks for the help. I don't fully resize, only the neck. I went shooting today and checked the brass. It had not streched at all. So, I am doing it when I resize. Would more lube in the neck help with this problem?

Thanks for the drier sheet idea, I cut one up in four strips and stuck it in there-ready for the next batch.

Steve Smith, I do not know anything about a "stoney point headspace guage" What does it measure? Is it easy to use? What does one cost?

Thanks again

I can answer for Steve. I own one and can give a basic description of what it measures. This headspace gauge attaches to a vernier caliper and allows the shell case to be measured from the base to the datum line at the shoulder. Here is the Stoney Point web site http://stoneypoint.com/oal_index.html

Gander Mountain carries Stoney Point products. There is a Gander Mountain in North Canton. You may be able to buy them cheaper at Midway or Lock Stock and Barrel.

Hope this helps.
