I've applied for my Concealed Carry license (which should arrive next week :D) and am currently looking for a decent holster for a Springfield XD40 Tactical. I have been looking at Comp-Tac's C-T.A.C. and Pro Undercover holsters. Does anyone have any experience with them? My budget is very limited at this point in time (moving and going back to college) so I would like try and keep my spending about $75.00 max.

Thank in Advance,

Jay

ETA: Mods, Please move to Handguns General forum if it's more appropriate there.

ETA2: Also could someone explain (and maybe post pictures) of the various types of belt loops/clips (example: C clip vs. J clip)?

One thing to consider is how long you are willing to wait for your holster.

Thanks JamesM. Regarding the wait time I would need it ASAP. The only other holsters I have are a shoulder holster that doesn't conceal quite so well (I'm moving to NC and wearing a second shirt may not always be possible) and an XD Gear OWB holster that suffers the same problem.

I did look at the Minotaur holster but Comp-Tac doesn't make one for a 5" Tactical, unfortunately.

Also thanks for the link to Glocktalk. :)

Hi, Crew590,

I have purchased several Comp-Tac products, and I am very happy with their quality, excellent customer service, and great turnaround time (each holster I've ordered has been manufactured and shipped within a few days).

I recently purchased a CTAC holster from Comp-Tac, with the "C-Clips", and the holster is very well made. However (and this is probably due to my own inexperience with the holster), the CTAC holster involved a lot of time for me to put on...what with getting the C-Clips to remain on my belt while adjusting everything into position...and then to get my shirt tucked in and not appear oddly bunched up. I know that I would not really use the CTAC because of my own "installation time"...so I am sending it back in exchange for a couple of the Shirt Tuckers (which Comp-Tac has already manufactured and shipped in just two days!).

On the other hand, the Shirt tucker may present some challenges with so much weight off to one side of the clip...for a larger pistol, at least.

Just my two cents....

The Comptac CTAC is one the better IWB holsters that I have seen or used. It's very comfortable even sitting down, very adjustable to your carrying style, probably the best holster I have used until I pick up a Tucker IWB holster.

Nope a compact, full size guns dig into your hip unless it's a thin frame like a 1911 or other single stack gun.

Hello PPGMD,

I too am need of a new holster and have been trying to gather info on IWB tuckable holsters. I recently bought a S&W M&P .40 Compact, do you think it would be a "Hip Digger". I'm active at work, it would be worn 40-60 hours a week.

I understand the breaking in / getting use to period. But,I don't need another addition to my Holster Draw.

I look forward to your reply.

Depends on your body and how long the gun is.

Anyways my Walther P99c is 6.6" long and here is what the gun and the holster look like.

I just got a CTAC for use with my P2000SK. So far, I think the CTAC is quite nice, though Kydex does have a different feel than leather. I think that leather is slightly more "comfy", but the CTAC has a lot of nice adjustability and the gun fit, draw feel and retention seems nicer to me with the CTAC. It'll take a little fiddling to find a good spot and angles for things.

Here's a couple pics of mine.

xMetal, what style clips are those (C clip vs. J clip vs. other)? Those are the style that I am interested in. Sorry if this seems like a dumb question. I'm learning as I go.

Thanks,

Jay
