What is the deal with the CCI #34 7.62 Military Primers and the CCI #41 5.56 Military Primers? Can the #34 primers be used in commercial .308 brass and fired from bolt action hunting rifles? Also, can the #41 primers be loaded in commercial .223 brass and fired in AR-15's and other rifles? Can the #34 be used in place of large rifle primers and can the #41 be used in place of small rifle primers? Thanks.

Yes

CCI NATO primers, #41 small and #34 large have bit heavier cup than standard primers. They are recommended for gas auto-loaders like the AR15/M16, M1, M1A, etc. They will work fine in bolt guns with normal firing pin strike pressure.

Kind of funny

:) At our last gun show there was one of the sellers that had primers that was rationing them 400 per person for the Normal blue box primers. and he was almost out but right next to them on the table was 6000 cci military primers for (7.62 ammo) it said on the box. I smiled as I purchased 2000 of these Large rifle magnum primers without anyone saying a word :neener:

So the #34 are equal to LR Mag primers and not just LR primers? I reload for .308, .30-06, and .270WSM. Could the #34 primers be substituted for the LR primers in these rounds? I shoot each of those rounds in a Winchester M70. Thanks.

Not the same as magnum primers, the metal of the cup is a little thicker and tougher, not as prone to slam-firing when the bolt of an autoloader slams the new round into the chamber. Magnum primers are hotter. So, CCI#34's are LR primers, that are just a little tougher, that's all.

Yes, CCI considers their #34 primers to be a magnum primer, even though they are not labeled as such. They work well with the hard to ignite ball powders typically used in military rounds, but can be used in place of standard LR primers as well.
