I attended the Great State Fair of Texas last Friday, and decided that since a 30.06 sign was not posted, I would carry. They wand everyone entering the park, so I approaced the security guard and told him I had a concealed handgun and a license. They first asked me if I was a cop, and when I said no, they took me to a different spot and another person called a supervisor. He showed up about 5 minutes later with a form. He looked at my drivers licesne and my CHL, then took down my name, address and CHL number. Then I was in. That was it. Other than feeling awkward standing off to the side and feeling like some sort of a criminal, it was not a bad experience.

I was actually wondering that myself. I went last week and went through the same stuff. Fortunately, the "security" girls working the wands were uneducated and completely inexperienced. I didn't have my ccw with me, but I always carry a knife of some sort. Since these two rhodes scholars werent searching purses (I don't consider taking a peek in an opened purse searching) I put my knife in an inner pocket in my wifes purse and went through with no problem.

If I do go again, the seecamp will be riding in the wife's purse as well.

Yeah, it wouldn't be hard to get in your CCW without declaring it. There is no notice at all that you have to declare a CCW. I did because it was on my hip. We took a wagon in with a bunch of stuff, and because we had just put the wheels on, we had a hammer in case a wheel fell off. They didn't find the hammer, or even wand the thing. Just peeked into the cooler. They are really not trying to keep stuff out, just make it appear to be so. In fact, as I was standing there, one of the "security girls" was commenting on some kids bringing in backpacks. She said "should they be allowed to bring those in? We don't have enough time to search them all that well." Made me feel really good that I had my gun on my hip and a speed strip in my pocket.

Ditto. Especially considering some of the residents in the "community".

This was my same experience when I went. Interestingly, they still wanded me, but I think she just didnt turn it on so as to make it look to everyone else that she was doing her job.

Although I still hate sitting on the side looking like a criminal, I did appreciate her covert wanding skills, lol.

I can never get through security there, or anywhere for that matter...don't know what it is, I'm not old enough to carry, I pretty much just strip at the airport, pockets first, belts, shoes...it'd be easier if I could just sign the form.

Greg

Oh yeah...I've always been intrigued, by the 30.06 sign, I took a picture of the one at Grapevine Mills, they couldn't have picked a better number.
