i am looking for a small ccw with a big punch pref a .40 that will fit in an ankle holster or in my pocket what do you suggest

Kahr
Glock 27
SIG P239

Don't know about the ankle carry (you'll walk like Quasimodo), but these are good choices to consider.

Hey Rugerman,
How ya doin'??
Welcome to THR!!

IMHO, ankle carry HAS to be one of the most Gawd awful means of hoofing a firearm known to man!!! :what:

I just gave away my Glock ankle holster in a karma contest!! ;)

But, like a bloody fool, I still have one of the contraptions for my Kel-Tec P3AT, which is the only class of gun I would bother trying to strap to my ankle!!

Have you ever worn those strap on ankle weights that runners use to train??
That's what ankle carry feels like!!!

I have one for my lcp and it dont bother me any but i would pick my pocket holster over the ankle one.:)

Personally ankle holsters are not confortable at all, but if you want to wear one, make that your back up gun, because the set up is to slow for a quick retrival. If it comes time to pull your back up the bad guy is pretty close, so don't over look a 38 special 2 inch barrel with hollow points. The muzzle flash will scare the dickens out of the dude / dudet

what do you suggest

What I suggest is go with the pocket. Ankle carry sucks. But I've been amazed lately at what I could carry in a pocket holster without anyone paying any attention whatsoever. Just looks like a wallet or something and it is accessed pretty easily if you are wearing the right kind of pants.

I'd recommend toting one of the following in a Desantis Nemesis pocket holster or a Robert Mika pocket holster.

Kahr PM40: very easy to pocket carry
Glock 27: not as easy to pocket carry
Don't rule out a S&W J frame with +P .38: very easy to pocket carry

Best of luck in your search.

Glock 27 ankle-holster

I carry my Glock 27 in a horse-hide ankle holster from Ken Knull. It is formed to the gun and covers the trigger, no retaining strap. I wear it all day, every day for several years now - you can walk and run with it, the gun never cover loose or dislodges. A very fine holster :) Is Mr Knull still around? His holsters are so good, I don't know how he makes a living......... you buy one and it lasts for years !

Yeah sure...I've tried them with a few mouse guns and the bulge is where I wish it was a little to the left....:D Please, show some pics with a pistol secured in a pocket holster and I'll attempt to duplicate the pistol inside the pocket w/o one....Now, if you want to wear some Cargo pants or one that looks like "Omar the Tentmaker", I'm too stylish for that. Believe me, for the "average Joe", you don't need a pocket holster.

The Kahr PM40 is small, light and thin enough to serve in this role. The Glock 27, even in a pocket holster and large cargo pant pockets, looks like a paperback James Michener novel stuffed in there. ;) The .40 cartridge is going to have some pretty serious bark and bite - as well as one less of them compared to the PM9 - in such a little gun, but whatever floats your boat. :D
