Here's something interesting that was just e-mailed to me. I've seen a video clip of this thing, but it's too large a file size to post here. It's a square cell phone looking device, about 4" X 2" X 1/2". Four .22 cartridges loaded in a row. The thing is cocked at the rear, and fired by pushing key pad buttons like on a normal cell phone.

Cell Phones At Airports
If you get asked to test your cell phone at the airport, this is the
reason. Because cell phone guns have been discovered. They have not been found in the US yet, but they are in use overseas. Beneath the digital phone face is a .22 caliber handgun capable of firing four rounds in rapid
succession using the standard telephone keypad. European law
enforcement officials are stunned by the discovery of these deadly
decoys. They say phone guns are changing the rules of engagement in
Europe ."We find it very alarming," says Wolfgang Dicke of the German
Police Union ."It means police will have to draw their weapons
whenever a person being checked reaches for their cell phone."
Although cell phone guns have not reached the US yet, the FBI, Bureau
of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the U.S.Customs Service say they
have been briefed on the new weapons.

All US ports of entry have been alerted. These covert weapons were
first discovered in October of 2000 when Dutch police came upon a
cache during a drug raid in Amsterdam. In another recent incident, a
Croatian gun dealer was caught attempting to smuggle a shipment
through Slovenia into Western Europe. Police say both shipments are
believed to have originated in Yugoslavia. Interpol sent a warning to
law enforcement agencies around the world. "If you didn't know they
were guns, you would think they were cell phones," said Ari
Zandbergen, a spokesperson for the Amsterdam police. "Only when you
have one in your hand do you realize that they are heavier than a
regular cell phone."

Be patient if security asks to look at your cell phone or turn it on
to show that it works. They have a good reason!

Very sad. Now you can't even carry a cell phone without suspicion of carrying a deadly weapon. Perhaps you Police Officers out there are already aware of this thing. If not, just one more thing to worry about - and something for the rest of us to be aware of when reaching for the cell phone in the presents of a Police Officer in a potentially stressful situation.

Yeah, I've seen the clip. Interesting.

I've been asked at airports (way before 9-11) to make my pager/cell phone beep. Always thought that was pretty stupid. If a terrorist could find a way to cram a gun/bomb into a phone/pager, they don't think they find a way to make it "beep" also?

I thought the mandatory weekly Cell Phone Gun thread could only be started on Tuesdays?

Perhaps one of the Moderators could round all of them up and merge them.

Or perhaps float it so people wouldn't keep starting them over and over and over...

This has been out on the intenet for at least 2 years. It is like the energizer bunny it just keeps going and going and going.

ya know as a guy that has to pack a nextel and carries a walther TPH; I'm thinkin they may be on to somethin here.:D

Es'cus me!!! I've been surfing this forum for some time and have never seen a reference to these things. I did a search when I saw these comments and found one direct reference to these things. No doubt I'm lacking access to all the "inside" threads here, since most everyone else seems much more aware of such things than I. And I'm certainly reminiscent from gleening every last tid bit of verbiage from every single post made in the last 3 years.

I suppose the forum is better served with the all too few questions like:

- What kind of gun should I get my wife, girlfriend, grandma, daughter, etc, etc, etc. - female who could care less about guns. Typical reply - my grandma carrys around a .357 mag in her doily bag - and just loves it.

- I've never owned anything more lethal than a sling shot - is a .44 mag a good first gun choice? Typical reply - sure, .44 mags don't kick much more than a .22.

- What's a good first handgun for a 5 year old? Typical reply - a 1911 .45 auto.

- I like Brand A guns better than Brand B guns. Typical reply - I like Brand "__", because that's what I went out and bought.

- I'm 450 pounds - or - I'm 85 pounds. What's the best concealed carry gun &/or rig for me? Typical reply - I carry an N frame S&W in my pants pocket all day long with no discomfort - and no body even notices.

- What's the best "man stopper"? A .357mag or .45 auto - fired from 3 feet away. Typical reply - neither are any good, it's got to be a .40 S&W.

Never mind. Of what possible interest could this information be in light of such pressing issues of the day as outlined above.

Nick, I did not mean tro come off as offensive. THis is just a topic taht does not die. Stick around a while it will be back. It was out well before 9/11 but after that it had a huge revival as a new threat to airlines security. It was not on this site as I recall, but surf around a bit and you will find multiple referances. I have even gotten links to it in emails that have circulated the web.

I enjoyed it and found it informative Nick. Relax mon, you cant please everyone all the time. Dont worry.....good job bro!;)
