I have a S&W 317 (airlight .22 3") and love it, but the V rear and fiberoptic front are terrible sights for percision shooting. I've got the rear sight switched out with a normal notch, and the front is next. How does one go about pulling the old sight off and putting the new one on? I noticed there is a pin through the fiber optic sight...

drift the pin, remove the old sight, install the new sight, clamp it tight to the ramp base and drill the new hole through the new sight using the existing ramp holes as a guide, drift pin back in.......

Bailey Boat summarized it well, to which I will add that one should 1) have an appropriate drift punch, and 2) have replacement rod for making a new pin, or a new pin on hand. They can be damaged by novices; I know.
