I'm new to reloading and have been loading only pistol rounds. I'm setting up to begin loading 223 REM on my Lee 4 position turret press. I bought the press used and it came with a 3 die set for 223. It has the decapping die, crimp die and the bullet setting die but there was no separate charging die included in this set like there was with my 9mm, 38sp and 40 S&W pistol setups. I have the autodisk charging setup and in looking at the Lee reloading manual there are listings in the .223 portion that show autodisk settings.

My question is what charging die can be used with this 3 die set?

There is a separate Rifle Charging riser that you must purchase. It allows the case to activate the autodisk powder drop, without expanding the case neck, also you may need a double disk adapter for the autodisk to give enough Powder capacity to the charge cavities in the powderdisks. all are available from Lee or your favorite e-tailer should have them, such as MidwayUSA, Natchez etc.

Lee has a universal charging die that will handle most rifle calibers. They do not include a charging die with their rifle sets, as a specific die is not needed to flare the brass as with a straight wall pistol case.

Thanks...I missed the rifle charging die on the website....just ordered it. I already have the double disk riser set so I'm set up...just needed to find the die to drop the powder through. I see that the neck size does not need to be flared like the pistol brass does so this charging die will work on the 30-30 I'm looking at as well. Thanks again for the quick responses. This is a great forum.
