Can anyone tell me if Charter Arms ever manufactured an "Airweight" version of its .38spl Undercover revolver in the pre-Charco days (i.e. 1980s-early 90s). I saw a sale listing for an Airweight with a 2 inch barrel recently, but was unable to confirm that Charter ever produced this model.

I have a late '70s Charter Arms Undercover 38 that is "somewhat light", around 17oz. The barrel shroud and grip frame are aluminum, the frame and cylinder are steel. This shaves a couple of ounces off of a period comparable S&W...

I would doubt that they did. The Charter Arms Undercover already was so light that there wouldn't be any practical reason to lighten it further. I had a number of them and generally found that in shooting they would frequently bind and just stop. In short, they were not sturdy revolvers nor were they well crafted.

Eventually I went to Rossi M88 revolvers. Maybe an ounce or two heavier, they shot without incidence.

Charter Arms revolvers were always all steel frame but were at 16oz or so which is light for steel IIRC
