I was wandering what you all would suggest as far as a good cheap amo for my ruger scout 308. I had bought some of the Russian silver bear and some of the brown bear and it shot pretty good. Is there any others out there than might be better or is this stuff ok. I would like to by a bunch of it to practice with. I really love this little gun and cant stop shooting it lol. I thought maybe there would be some military stuff that was cheap as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated , thank in advance ... Swamp Rooster.

/south african surplus .308 or 7.62x51 is pretty good stuff but getting hard to find. avoid pakistani .308. ive never had a problem with wolf or brown bear. its cheap and not a match grade round but its not bad ammo. Australian surplus and Portuguese surplus have both been very accurate for me

It's a nice gun, so why feed it crap? I'd bite the bullet (pardon the pun) and buy American ammo. It's not that much more money. Unless you shoot a lot, it won't add up to much. If you do shoot a lot, what about re-loading?

Thanks guys , that was a good link .... lots to choose from . Will the wolf ammo or the brown /silver bear hurt my gun? I do plan on reloading down the line but right now I just want to shoot. The brown bear I had was hunting ammo and seemed to group pretty well. Swamp Rooster.

my local walmart has federal 150 gr lead tips for 14.97$ thats pretty hard to beat. But i reload so i Buy them for the brass :)

Let the guy shoot what he wants to shoot. :banghead: His rifle, his money, his decision. Nothing wrong with practicing with cheap ammo. I use it in my AR-15 all the time.

Lone Ranger:
The only "Paki" POF ammo I've used and still have is 'British' .303, which has corrosive primers.
Most of it ignites in a normal manner, but another batch has some "click-bangs".

Those that I've watched on Youtube have very short intervals (check Enfield: "Jollygreenslug" with a "Jungle C.").
Beware that in a very rare, extreme case, you can be ejecting the round after a five or ten second wait, when it goes off (!), based on an Internet first-hand account.

Maybe .308 was produced and stored much better than some of their .303.

swamp rooster: "Ammo-seek":). Have you tried this?

Reload your own. Cheap ammo is just that, usually inaccurate and a waste of time. By reloading you can get improve the performance of the ammo you shoot and shoot it for a fraction of what the cheap inaccurate stuff sells for.

If you can't hit what you are shooting at, why bother saving the money.
