CHEAP shooting mat/gun case recommendations

I'm looking for a cheap mat to shoot prone on that preferably doubles as a gun case. I don't have any real specific requirements; just don't feel like laying directly on the concrete floor of the range to shoot. I've found one case like this but given the price, I might as well spend a little more and get a Blackhawk or Eagle shooting mat.

What do you folks use for shooting prone?

I really like my 9'X 6' Orential rug, rolls out everywhere, and it's comfy, without being bulky. The large size protects all my gear when Im out shooting in the dirt and cinders.

go to an army surplus store, and buy an isomat. they are about the right size for a shooting mat

Shooting Mat and Case

I use a Blackhawk shooting mat I got off ebay for real cheap. I used to use regular carpet. Works fine; keeps you clean and padded. If you don't feel like spending money, just go that route. You can get body sized strips of carpet almost anywhere.

Taliv and mchgnmike that's exactly what I was looking for.

I just don't want to spend the money on a $100+ shooting mat yet as I won't be able to shoot very often for the next few years after this summer.

Ooh, that is neat. I considered buying one of those rifle cases in the past, but I didn't know at the time it doubled as a shooting mat. Now I go buyone.

There are a couple of rivets to remove to make it really work... but they do work well. I used my paratroopers weapons case for a Hi-Power match.

I always keep a sleeping matt and sleeping bag in my jeep. It comes in really handy for those nights out drinking when you crash on a buddies floor. As a bonus, the pad makes a good shooting mat, and the sleeping bag rolled up makes a good rifle rest, so I get double duty from it.

Additionally, in an emergency when your car gets stuck in a snow storm, the added warmth could mean life or death.

Keeping the bag and mat in my car 24/7 has definitely been one of my better ideas.

As a bonus, the pad makes a good shooting mat, and the sleeping bag rolled up makes a good rifle rest, so I get double duty from it.

I used a rolled up jacket once. Unfortunatly, it was my nice Columbia jacket that I always wore. It was one of the collapsable models, where it would stuff inside of itself. I figured I would try it as a rest.

One shot with my CETME rested on it, and somehow the backblast came back and shredded part of it.

Fortunatly Columbia and REI have very good warranty and exchange services.

I bet they are still looking at that jacket trying to figure out what tore it up.
