Cheapest .38 Special FMJ in Austin, TX?

I just bought a my first revolver, a Ruger SP-101, and let's just say that I need a LOT of practice with this thing.

Where is the cheapest .38 special ammo with Full copper jacket in Austin?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Wednesday night, I spent the better part of 1/2 hour trying to get somebody in their North Olmsted, OH store to sell me some ammo. There was NOBODY at the sporting goods counter. I stopped TWO different sales-droids who said they'd get somebody, who never came. The irony was that they had boxes and boxes of .38 Special and .45acp. I just couldn't BUY any.

I left in disgust, telling them on the way out that they'd lost a sale and why.

I then went to Dick's, which was even WORSE. There was a guy in the "hunting/fishing" department showing some guy every fishing reel in the place like he was selling Lamborghinis. He didn't even bother to say, "I'll help you when I'm done with this guy." I had to corral another guy who went and talked to Mr. Fishing Reel, who said he'd be with me in a few minutes. Ten minutes later, somebody else finally showed up so that I could find out they didn't have ANY of the ammo I wanted. I walked around for a few minutes looking for a customer support desk. I don't think they have one...

So because of the North Olmsted Wally World and Dick's I used 1/2 of my two hours of open shooting, standing around waiting for the equivalent of SBC tech support.

The Dick's problem appeared to be a store related one, since their Westlake store had TWO kids working the gun counter yesterday. I GOT my ammo in TWO minutes instead of waiting TWENTY minutes to get NOTHING.

Walmart's the best deal I've come across, the 130grn FMJ 100-packs of Winchester.

Just out of curiosity, why FMJ for practice? Worried about fouling? If price is your primary consideration I suspect you'll find lead, either in round nose or wadcutter is less expensive than jacketed rounds.

Down in Sunset Valley at the MOPAC/290 interchange there is a Wal-mart on the south side of 290 and an Academy Surplus on the north side. You can price check the Wal-mart first, and if they don't have it then move on to Academy. If you are willing to drive down to Kyle and buy in bulk then Cabela's might have some .38 FJM in 500 round bulk boxes for fairly inexpensively.

You can check with Chuck at Tex-Guns on Manchaca, but even if has some .38 FMJ he won't be able to beat the price of a big box store. If you haven't ever been there I would suggest it though. Great little gun store, with helpful people.

Oh, and if you're willing to buy in bulk have you checked online?

What are you guys paying for the walmart 130gr FMJ? It's almost $20 here for the 100 round box. 20 cents a pop isn't even close to a bargain.

$18 for a 100rds at Wally World is the best I've managed to find. Normally when I got to walmart I end up getting the same 15-20 minute wait. I plan my time around it, and just by 1000rds or so at a time.
