Business dispute ends in suicide blast in East China

[LatelineNews: 2003-2-23] Shanghai - A business dispute in east China's Yiwu city turned deadly when a man stormed into a company handling railway luggage killing himself and the owner with a home-made bomb.
The suicide bomber, who was not identified, rushed into the business early Saturday, caught the owner Zhi Youxiang in a tight embrace, and set off the bomb, Xinhua news agency reported.

The two were killed instantly in the blast, while two others were injured and hospitalized, but are no longer in critical condition, a doctor at the Yiwu People's Hospital told AFP.

Local police said the suicide bomber had left a letter, pointing to a business dispute.

"He had quarreled with the boss of this company, and decided to get revenge," a police officer told AFP. He declined to give details.

Bomb blasts are frequent in China because of the ready availability of explosives used for construction work, and because strict gun laws make access to firearms difficult.

Earlier this month, a court in northern China's Shaanxi province sentenced a man to death, after convicting him of a mid-January bombing that killed six people, including the husband of his lover.
