Hello folks,
Just out of curiosity, is there any reason why 00Buck (2-3/4" remington express 9 pellet, if it matters) would not work out of a turkey-type choke (.660" constriction)? I'm just wondering after seeing a video of buckshot being shot at a 4'x3' patterning board from 50 yards and not a single pellet hit. I reckon that it wasn't a full choke, but would a turkey type of choke help? or would it ruin the choke/shot?

Thanks folks, and happy shooting!

I had the same idea, to use my Mossy 835 turkey gun to shoot #4 buckshot for Coyotes. Some savvy shotgunners pointed out that you can over choke shot (the deformed shot will become fliers- and result in a blown pattern). Try your modified choke, and then you full choke and see how your gun patterns with the loads you will use. My next move is to get a "dead coyote" or "dead dog" choke (made for buckshot, tighter than full , not as much as turkey) Some have killed coyotes at 60+ yards with this setup. Check out Carlsons for a sweet choke for $35.

Consider Federal's buckshot with their flitecontrol shot cups, it is said to really hold a tight pattern out of most any choke.

Conventional Wisdom says that lots of choke and buckshot means lots of flyers and a blown pattern.

I have done some patterning with Full chokes and divers brands of 00 and found that some patterns are quite tight but most are truly wretched.

A note, a nice long forcing cone helps any buck patterns. I'd start there, then bench test with various tubes.

HTH....
