i am looking to buy an accupoint 1-4x with the german #4 dot. i plan on using the optic a lot for hunting, especially at night. i shoot at night using a using a white LED light. i dont know if i should get the amber or green reticle. i have heard different and yet strong opinions on both. i was wondering if anyone could help me out, that has experience or knowledge on the subject.

i have heard that green is brighter yet, amber might be better for night shooting.

I have a scope with Green/Red Illumination.

I don't use the green because it's too bright and obscures the sight picture. Go amber. Won't be as bad. MY red illumination is nice on a low setting in the dark though.

I like the green for day hunting, but the red would probably be better for night. The dot is pretty small so it may not be that big of a deal for you.

Mosin Freak,

i hear ya, but battery powered dots are different. they ARE much brighter at night.

thanks for the input. i was leaning toward the amber but the dot is so small it might not matter what i get.

i would like to hear if anyone chose amber over green for a reason (not talking battery powered dots.)

Amber is the hardest to pick out, Green the easiest. I prefer green but have no problem with Red. Amber is almost unusable for me.

Green is the way to go. I've tried each and the green is brighter for my eyes. Which is odd, usually red FO pistol sights are brighter than green. Maybe it's the Accupoint collector. The green deosn't blend in with anything, the red and amber can blend in with foilage in the fall if you have the collector covered up and dim.

Now at night it seems nice as well when it's lit with tritium. But if you're using a bright flashlight, you're just going to see a set of black cross hairs or triangle, unless your target is far away or your light is dim.

I prefere the triangle. Faster, brighter, and when the illumination goes out do to odd lighting conditions like a bright flshlight, or from shooting from a dark spot indoors out into a bright field. The larger triangle gives a easier to find dark reticle.

I have an amber chevron. Love it. I think the green gets lost in foliage on bright days...at night; i doubt it matters. However, IIRC, you're in the Southwest, so you might want to take the opposite tack and go green...

...and although you didnt ask; i prefer the chevron to the triangle because you can use it for holdover without obscuring the target as much, and the overall width is wider, which works well for windage holds too.
