Well, the GF told me she was going shoping and came back with a rather long, cardboard box...said Stevens on the side...

She said she didn't even bother wanting to wrap it...too hard...:D

So now I am a proud owner of a neat little Stevens 200 in 270 Winchester...I know she must have heard me talking to a friend about me wanting one but I honestly didn't realize she would take that to heart...I was wanting to find a beater rifle so I could scavenge the action and make a swap barrel project. But she made me make her a promise...she doesn't mind me customizing the rifle...as long as the first thing I do is get a nice laminate stock. I told her that was a promise I would have no problem keeping. :)

Now...down to the task at hand...not really a hunter so I don't mind too much about having to block the mag well...and I have noticed there are detachable magazines available for these...and since I already have a bolt-face that is in the magical .473 dia AND a long action so I can have dang near any cartridge combo I could wish for...and I can swap out the bolt faces with NO problem...so that isn't even really an issue...I see a reminton 6.5mm Mag project!

The trigger seemed to clean up fairly decently when I got it apart and tweaked the travel and pull...but I see an aftermarket trigger in the future...also is there an acceptable way to deactivate the "ready to fire" indicator/bolt release so that its similar to say a Mosin or other rifles that simply squeeze the trigger to remove the bolt? Lastly, who has already played around with the barrel swaps that are available off Midway USA? Did you invest in the Go/No-go gauges or did you use the method listed on the Savage shooters website with the carbon on the case head of a sized piece of brass?

Lastly, I want to tell all that I don't need to be told that I am a lucky fella for having a lady like this. :)
