Chrome Lined Barrel, Advantages/Disadvantages?

I am happy with my "el Cheapo" DTI non chrome lined barrel it is surprisingly accurate but I guess if I lived in the southeast I might consider getting a chrome line barrel. Heck Uncle Sam runs em.

Over the life of the barrel, the extra cost for chrome lining is minimal. Like many other things when it comes to AR's. people will tell you it is better but they cannot tell you how much better. So, how much improvement are you buying for the extra cost oc the chrome lining?

In addition to all that has been mentioned.
It offers easier extraction.
Early M-16's in Vietnam were not chrome lined and didn't work so hot.
Later, chrome lining was added and then they worked.

Mom & dad wouldn't have let me escape primary school to go there, but my "take" on it, is the ignorance on lube had far more to do with malfunctions than chrome lining.
And I'm "asking" ...Anyone....please tell me if I'm wrong.

While for the most part, you do sacrifice some accuracy with a chrome-lined barrel, there is one exception; the FN SPR. Mine took 3 out of 4 matches this year, even going up against GAP rifles. It's my understanding they use a proprietary method of applying the chrome.

Chrome lined barrels are only good for easier cleaning thats the only difference and you lose some accuracy at long range,
but the good thing your barrel will last long enough for your great great grandchildren if its chrome-lined.

My FN PBR shoots very well even though it has a chrome lined barrel.
My Armalite M4 knockoff, using the bench, shoots exceptionally well. And it has a chromed lined barrel.
Today's barrels, chromed or not, are much better than they used to be.

My USGI surplus colt 603 upper has been working hard to convert me to the chrome lined darkside. This silly thing shoots like a house on fire

i could be totally wrong about this... but i don't think chrome lining is less accurate per se, it's just that once you chrome line a bore, you can't then do things like hand-lap it. so it's not something you want on a benchrest rifle. but if you're just looking for 3/4 MOA or so in a blaster, chrome should be fine. noveske famously has very accurate barrels that are thick chrome lined. (though, to be fair, most of their barrels are not lined) so it's not impossible.

i think the only AR barrels i have that are chrome lined are on my colt 6920, and my magpul/noveske LTD ed recce. I use stainless steel on all the others. oh, scratch that... i have a couple builds in progress using the Bravoco mid-length barrels that are lined. so i guess 4 out of more than a dozen

chromed barrels will withstand fast and sustained fire much better than non, and resist corrosion of mercuric chlorate primed ammo. got it's start in Russia. I've shot some sks's with chromed barrels that were quite accurate once the trigger job was done.
