Yesterday I disassembled my new bought Yugo SKS and began to clean it. The mineral spirits works very well at removing cosmos. I only met some problem when cleaning the bolt. It is very difficult to punch out the firing retaining pin and finally I gave up. Instead, I soaked the bolt in the hot water for several minutes and then back to the mineral spirits, after several times, the firing pin now seems rattling free. Still want to figure out a easy way to disamble the bolt, but now I will just leave it there.
I spent about 4 hours to clean it, and the work is still not finished. I didn't take the barrel and receiver assembly out of the stock, it is somewhat difficult to get it out, do I have to unscrew some screws to take the barrel and receiver assembly out???
I will then clean the remaining and take care of the stock, then ..., range time! What brands of ammo do you guy shoot the SKS with? and What kind of ammo do you guys shoot best?
The Yugo SKS is a good rifle indeed!
