Me and a buddy were shooting clay pigeons at his house today when my Winchester 1400 jammed. It was a typical failure to feed, the leading edge of the shell hung up on the outer edge of the breech face. Very simple to clear, if you do it the right way... Have you ever knew that what you were about to do was wrong and was probably going to hurt like hell but just couldn't stop yourself from doing it? Well, I had one of those moments today. Instead of clearing the jam like I was trained to by putting the gun on safe, lock the bolt to the rear to allow the shell to drop out into my hand then reload. I decided that I could put the gun on safe and then just pop that sucker back in with the tip of my thumb and when I did the bolt slammed shut on my thumb and the extractor took a nice chunk out of the tip of it. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid, I stood there dripping blood while my buddy got me a band-aid. I was so embarrassed and to his credit he was polite enough not to rub it in to bad. So not only did I have a dumb-a$$ attack, I shot terrible and now I have a sore thumb, and my buddy seen it all first hand.
