Clerks kill two would-be robbers at KC convenience store

By JOHN SHULTZ
The Kansas City Star

Two store clerks in an east Kansas City convenience store turned the tables on a pair of armed robbers, shooting and killing both masked men Monday night, police said.

The robbers -- both armed with guns -- burst into the store about 7:45 p.m., police Sgt. Tony Sanders said. One of them jumped over the counter of Robert's Super Market in the 4500 block of Truman Road.

A clerk shot that man, who was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The second robber began struggling with a second clerk. During the scuffle, that robber also was shot, apparently by the first clerk.

The wounded man made it out of the store and fled. He later turned up at a hospital, where he died of his wounds.

Police were investigating whether the man drove himself to the hospital or whether a third person was involved.

Neither clerk was injured, and neither of the robbers was identified Monday night.

Police separated the two clerks and took them in for questioning, Sanders said.

Though the investigation was in its early stages Monday night, the circumstances suggested self-defense, Sanders said.

Define bad luck.

I don't know why people go robbing other people in the US.

I wouldn't dare to do it in Switzerland, where 'good' reason to shoot someone is you in front of a gun. If there's no immediate danger of the perp killing you or a third person, shooting the scumbag might get you way more jail than the robber.

At any rate, good to see some Oxygen got saved in the process.

What, no follow up how "They were good boys who only wanted to get money to buy presents for their mommas"? Pity.

dinosaur, give 'em time. Once the police figure out who the robbers were.

Chlorine time!!!

All these headlines of BGs getting nailed doing their dirty work...I wonder if they are getting the hint yet?

I don't know what it is, but these heartwarming stories they run this time of year always seem to get to me. *sniff*

Why do they always refer to things from the criminals viewpoint?

"At this point, there's nothing to make us think this was anything other than a robbery gone bad," Campbell said.

Crooks dead, or locked up. No victims harmed, no cops harmed, no real property damage mentioned. So how, exactly, did it "go bad"?

But the statment makes it sound as if the clerks had given up the money and let themselves be murdered it would have been a "robbery gone good".

And if Campbell or any other idiot decides to charge the store owner, may they be infested by investigators from IA until they retire and/or die of old age.

You should have heard the local TV news "talking heads". The Reporters started out the story with "Two people die in armed robery" ***?
it should have been "Two robbers die in failed robery attempt"

Don't the folks who insist on obtaining financial rewards at someone elses expense, that getting shot is just an on the job hazard.

Those who beat their guns into plows, will plow for those who don't.
