A few weeks back, I got an email from a company in Calif for a CMMG 22LR conversion for ARs. It was priced at $119, which was cheaper than I'd seen in the past. So I ordered it & an extra magazine. Two weeks later, the same company sent another email offering the same package for $99. Grrrrrrrr.

Anyway, got it to the range today. I'll have to say I need to reserve final judgement for awhile.

It's really a very easy swap out. Just remove the AR bolt/bolt carrier, and replace with the CMMG conversion.

Where I had trouble was with the magazines. They were both VERY hard to get to seat. And once in, VERY hard to remove. This gradually improved with each sucessive use. But was never a smooth operation. Perhaps it will get better once they have the rough edges worn off. They're some sort of plastic. And it was over 100 degrees today. Maybe they had just expanded from the heat.

When I did get the magazines seated, function was pretty good. Fired about 200 rounds, and had one failure to completely eject. Had to pull the bolt back slightly to get pressure off the spent brass. This put the bolt behind the next round in the magazine, which in turn caused a double feed, because the previous round was already fed to the chamber. So had to fight that magazine out to clear things up. But that was the only hick-up.

Rounds were grouping to the right of where my red dot was zeroed for 223. I didn't want to mess with that, so just kept shooting to see how well it functioned.

If this business with the magazines works itself out, I'll be very happy with this setup.

FYI the CMMG conversion is not designed to extract live/dummy rounds. Mine won't. I wish I'd known that before I bought it. Some brands of .22 have a lot of duds.

The company is working on a next-generation conversion kit that will extract live rounds.

They also just released a drop-in bolt hold open converter that allows the AR bolt hold open to function. You have to swap out the followers in their mags with a new type to use it.
