I am interested in getting a CMMG AR-15. I like the 18 inch barrel model with a 1:8 barrel twist. My gun store can't find one. Do you have to order them directly from CMMG ??? Anybody have one ??? TIA....

I ordered mine directly from the web site. I ordered the lower, and then ordered the upper to save a few bucks. You'll need to have it shipped to an FFL dealer that will do a transfer for you. Your FFL will need to fax a copy of their FFL license to CMMG.

Do the order on the website, then give CMMG's fax # to your FFL to fax their license.

There is a gentlemen going by AlohaRover on Calguns who is a distributor for CMMG parts. Gives a pretty good discount, especially considering CMMG just raised their prices by about 20%.

BTW: CMMG is dealing with significant back-orders. If you want something that is not in stock, be prepared for a 1-3 month wait. :(

why NOT buy it direct?

if your already gonna have to order it cause you cant find it local.

why NOT buy it direct?

The OP, or anyone, definitely can but I'm not sure there is any benefit.

The upper the OP wants is $600 plus shipping from CMMG vs $540 including shipping from the retailer I mentioned. Same story with a stripped lower; $150+ship from CMMG vs $110 from AlohaRover. That's $100+ right there. I imagine there are other retailers out there with similar pricing.

No one is loosing out here; it' not a taking advantage of CMMG or anything. It is just like buying a Sony product from Target vs the Sony Store.

Also, if he can find a retailer with it in stock then there is no wait. CMMG might have them in stock as well, but most popular items are back-ordered.

1. get a CMMG lower from Aimsurplus.com
2. get a LPK and a complete upper from Aimsurplus.com
3. spend 20/30min of your time, and you have a nice CMMG rifle for around $700

My CMMG is perhaps the finest AR type rifle I own. If I were you, I would call Dan or Joe at HeroGear in Winchester TN, perhaps they may have one in stock, or they can most certainly order you one...
