I was just looking at CDNN's catalogue where they have several AR-15's built by CMMG that have a bore/chamber coated by something called "WASP" that they say is more durable than chrome lining. Though I've long been a fan of CDNN, I'm a bit skeptical of this particular claim, so I thought I'd ask the matrix.

Last I checked, no one knows for sure what it is. I suspect it's iron nitride, the same stuff as Tenifer, Melonite, etc. If so, I think that stuff is tougher than chrome, though I'm not sure what the coefficient of friction is.

It seems to be some sort of nitriding process, which would be comparable to chrome in durability. It happens to be a cheaper process, which is why you would see it on their less expensive models.

Glock's Tenifer is also a nitriding process, but there are several different types of nitriding which are not all identical. However, all are very hard and should be durable.
