Howdy folks,
I have a question about CMP that hopefully some of you can answer for me. I'm looking through their website and it's sounding like they send the rifles straight to your door. Is this true or do you still need to transfer through an FFL?

They send it right to your door. They have a special exemption from Congress to do that.

It's pretty cool.

Trebor's right, the CMP ships right to your door. Nothing cooler than that, it was one of the reasons that made me want to get a Garand through them. It felt good getting a gun without jumping through all the hoops that CA makes law-abiding citizens do.

I think you guys just convinced me on my next choice of C&R I want. As a Vet I dont know why I did not look into this sooner. THANK YOU THR!

Your C&R license (if you have one) satisfies the "Proof of Markmanship" requirement.

If you don't have a C&R, I *think* your DD214 also works. Check the CMP website at www.odcmp.com for sure.

Now all you have to do is join an affiliated club. The Garand Collector's Association is $20 or $25 a year and qualifies. They don't have any physical range, but you get a nice newsletter.

Do a google search and you'll find them.

Some local ranges are also CMP affiliated, so if you have a membership somewhere already, it's worth asking at the club.
