Well today i found out the CMP had stores, then promptly felt retarded for not knowing this. so after a quick search here i wasn't able to turn up the info i needed.

do you need to have the shooters registration thing like you do when buying online?

can you buy ammo from their?

this isn't about the cmp store, but what was the thing that you could by so your garand could fire any ammo? it was some kind of gas tube i belive.

Thanks for the info.

Same rules apply as if you were using internet, mail order, ect.

You can modify the gas plug to reduce the action hammering so hard. Does it make the Garand able to fire any kind of ammo, I don't believe so. The ammo that is loaded to higher pressures bends
the operating rod.

Hope this helps

If you go to their website there is a section where they explain the documentation you need and what you have to pull together (ID, proof of citizenship, club you belong to, etc., etc.). Just check their web site.

You need to belong/join an affilated club, the list is on the CMP site. Garand Collectors Assoc. is a good one. You have to meet shooting requirements, this is also explained on the site. If you're a Vet. you're covered.

There's no "easiest way" just meet their requirements. Not hard actually.

You can buy ammo if you are a member of an affiliated club, if you aren't a member of one already the Grand Collector's Association is one you can join online that makes you eligible. Ammo shipping is running many weeks behind order dates, but prices sure seem good for surplus ammo. Ammo can be bought without meeting the shooting certification, but the rifles can't.

To shoot non-surplus ammo check out http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=412046 - I don't know anything more about it, no reviews, but you can google and find more comments on using it
