CNN's American Morning: NIU report very misleading and biased!

I was watching CNN American Morning show before work and almost fell out of my chair. I had to wait till they posted the transcripts before I could post it here.

De La Cruz makes it sound like just anyone can buy a gun over the internet without any background checks. She makes it sound like you can just order a gun like you would the book of the month club. She does say you have to ship it to a local FFL, but does not go on to say the local FFL runs a FBI back ground check. She also make the websites seem "sick" for having sold the shooter some items.

I emailed CNN to tell them this story was very misleading and biased. Please email/call CNN and demand they report the entire truth and not just part. Would they think Ford or GM was sick when they advertise cars when a drunk uses one of their cars to kill a family on a highway?

HERE IS THE TRANSCRIPT:

DE LA CRUZ: Hey, good morning to you. We found out that they both bought accessories and guns online from the same store. So pretty shocking as we figure this out this morning. www.Topglock.com -- this is where Steve Kazmierczak bought accessories. He did not buy a gun. He bought two nine millimeter magazines and a holster. And looking at the Web site, Kiran, it seems as though they obviously have acknowledged what's happened. A banner here for the shootings at NIU. So that's topglock.com, and this is where Steve Kazmierczak bought his accessories.

Now, Seung-Hui Cho also bought a gun, a handgun online, and he bought his from the www.gunsource.com. Again, the same owner, and you see that with the banner that acknowledges the NIU shooting. If you click on these banners, it does take you back to the NIU Web site. I just want to show you the strange juxtaposition if you move down the page. Here's the NIU shooting and then Save Big on Rifles and Handguns right underneath. So, you know, that's something that kind of turns your stomach, if you will.

Now, these two Web sites are owned by tgscom. And if you go to their Web site right now, you'll see pretty much the same thing. There's the banner once again, and we wanted to look into the legalities of buying a gun online, Kiran. If you click on this link right here, buying a gun online, it shows that absolutely it is legal to buy a gun on the Internet and here's the four-step process.

You want to basically find a gun store in your area, a licensed federal firearm dealer, and they're going to arrange the transfer of sales. They're going to go ahead and fax their license to tgscom. You're going to look for the gun that you want on the Web site, place your order, and then sit back and relax while we do the rest. So it shows that it is a pretty simple four-step process. You can buy a gun online. It is legal to do so.

CHETRY: Yes, but you're right. It is an eerie connection that both of the worst school massacres we've seen in some time have a connection to this Web site.

DE LA CRUZ: The same owner owning the same two websites.

CHETRY: Thanks, Veronica.

Easy BS detection

Since Illinois has arguably the most Draconian gun laws in the nation, I take umbrage at all the reports that say it's easy to buy a gun here. This loser did it legally and thats what they avoid reporting. I invite anyone wishing to see exactly how hard it is to buy guns here to drop me a line. If mayor daley his way it may soon be illegal to "keep or bear" in all Cook County,it already is for handguns in Chicago & long guns there must be "registered". I hope and pray that the USSC will validate Heller and Chicago will be next. I have invested what be my usual political contribution and will watch it grow until someone brings suit against Chicago. They will have my total support.:fire:

Hey, another interesting trend to keep on the lookout for is the victimization of the perp! I've noticed an increase in sympathy directed towards the perpetrators of these mass muder sprees!
This is done under the premise that "the gun" took over and Johnny Nice became Johnny Bad! Pay particular attention to the NIU perp and his portrayal in the media.....

Despite stop watching national news channels, the story gets out there and every American is misinformed or hear what their itching ears want to hear.

Contacting the locals news stations and giving them the TRUTH is the solution.

I'm not quite sure what's necessary in IL to become a CO, but it isn't quite like picking up a part-time Burger King job. Nobody, it seems, has had anything much to say about the fact that this guy had worked, even if briefly, as a correctional officer, or what that says about the relative likelihood that any of us might or might not go off the train tracks, "civilian" or not.

Does anybody remember the case of George Banks?

We should teach all Americans to know how to order firearms in a similar manner. (The criminals already know how.) Basically, CNN just taught everybody, albeit in a negative anti-gun manner. I wonder if tgscom.com is getting a lot more business all of a sudden. For my next firearms needs, I'll check with tgscom.com first.

The problem with this type of biased reporting is that it misleads “the masses” and cultivates an anti-gun atmosphere. Politicians feeling the heat from these misinformed constituents are then quick to get on their soap box saying they need to pass more gun control, if not outlaw them altogether like in the UK.

Changing the channel and/or saying nothing is counter productive.

If we the people don’t stand up to these type of left wing media hit jobs, then we will have no one to blame when we loose our 2nd amendment rights.

They're probably unaware that, before the NFA, one could mail-order a Thompson Sub-Machine gun almost exactly like we order a book on the internet now. You could still buy non-NFA firearms over-the-counter in hardware stores, or through the mail, for some time after that.

No school shootings, though.

Until the GCA of 1968,except for fully automatic weapons as Sgt.Sabre stated, you still could do all of that.
And still no school shootings.
The more gun control laws that have piled on the books, the more crimes with firearms we've had.The more the law abiding are hamstrung, the more the criminal delights.
Coincidence?England and Australia are now experiencing the same situation since their Draconian gun grabs of the mid 1990's.
But I preach to the choir and now desist and leave makeshift soap box.

Not totally true there. It depended on your state laws.

CNN hates guns.

No school shootings, though.

IMO the more you try to keep people away from something, the more they are going to want it.

Back in the day, when you could get guns everywhere, when they had shooting classes in school etc., guns had no "mystical" powers. Now they are like forbidden fruit and that just drives a desire to have them.

It's the same with kids accidentally shooting other kids. I believe that many of those cases are just kids "mystified" by firearms. These kids are told not touch the guns, their parents don't take them shooting etc. The gun sits in a drawer and just calls out to those kids. My kids on the other hand are so used to handling my guns, they don't even blink an eye when I open the safe or take one out.

The media has made guns evil with the help of an apathetic population. It's going to take a lot of work to change the media, if it can be done at all.

CNN Headline News

:barf: referred to his 3 handguns and one shotgun as an
"arsenal" you'd think they could use a dictionary.

My wife saw this and there was a discussion over dinner. While her friends wanted 'stricter gun-laws', she kept an open mind about it. Actually after dinner, I think I swayed her to thinking about 'what-if someone was there to stop it?' It was an interesting dinner topic.

I doubt CNN would report a follow-up so here it is:

Owner of Web-based Firearms Company that Sold to Virginia Tech and NIU Shooters Looks to Turn Tragedy into Platform to Improve Public Safety

TGSCOM Inc. President Eric Thompson says unfortunate twist of fate is spurring him to take a more active role in protecting the public –especially young people – from future attacks.

GREEN BAY – Eric Thompson, the owner of the Internet-based sporting goods and firearms retailer that has sold products to the shooters involved with the Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois University tragedies, says his unfortunate twist of fate is spurring him to take a more active role in protecting the public – especially young people – from future attacks.

Cho Seung-Hui used TGSCOM Web site www.thegunsource.com to purchase a Walther P22 firearm used in the Virginia Tech shootings last April. Just last week, Steven Kazmierczak, who killed five people at Northern Illinois University on February 14th, received two 9mm Glock magazines and a holster he ordered from the TGSCOM Inc. Web site www.topglock.com.

“I’ve spent the past weekend feeling absolutely terrible that my company has been linked to both of these heinous crimes,” said Eric Thompson, president of TGSCOM Inc. “I assume it is just an unfortunate coincidence, but I also believe I now have a special responsibility to do all I can to try and prevent further loss of life.”

Thompson is lending his voice to those who support giving the public the right to protect themselves from mass murderers like Cho and Kazmierczak. Specifically, Thompson believes that college students and university faculty members who are properly licensed and trained to carry a firearm should be allowed to do so. Thompson also wants his home state of Wisconsin to join the 48 states who already allow private citizens to carry a firearm for protection.

“There is simply no reason that a properly trained and licensed person should not be able to exercise their constitutional right to protect themselves and the people they love,” said Thompson. “It’s time for our political leaders to stop pretending that murderous madmen, like Cho and Kazmierczak, will obey a feel-good edict like the gun-free school zone laws. All four major presidential candidates are in Wisconsin today, and I’d love to hear some real solutions from them – not just rhetoric.”

Thompson says that while he is pro-Second Amendment, he would like to see an open and honest discussion from both sides of the controversial gun control debate. To help facilitate that discussion, Thompson is planning to launch www.GunDebate.com as a location where people can “have a dialogue on the best way to prevent future tragedy.” Thompson said the site should be ready later this week.

“I hope and pray I will never again be in a position where I am asked questions about selling items used in a crime,” said Thompson. “The next news story I want to be involved in is how I sold a firearm to someone who helped prevent tragedy – not cause it.”

Thompson and TGSCOM continue to cooperate with law enforcement looking into the Northern Illinois University shootings. All of TGSCOM’s Web sites include a link to the NIU Memorial Fund.

Eric Thompson is the president and owner of www.topglock.com, www.thegunsource.com and over 100 other sporting goods and firearms related websites. His websites sell to police officers, government agencies and private citizens. He holds a federally granted firearms license and has aided in many police investigations to bring criminals to justice. TGSCOM Inc., which employs 20 people, is based in Green Bay, Wisconsin where Thompson, his wife and their three young children live.

If I'm in a restaurant or store and Al-Jazeera (sorry, I mean CNN) is on, I'll change it if possible or ask for it to be changed. It's unbelievable to think how much of what we know of the world we only know because the media told us so; thus, I refuse to watch CNN as they are actively indoctrinating America.

I am interested in the fact that Steven Kazmierczak apparently was discharged by the military only a few months after joining.

Anyone know the circumxtances of that discharge? Was it Honorable or Medical or Dishonorable, or what>

I thought dishonorably discharged folks were prohibited persons, yet I keep seeing that he bought the guns "legally."

Was there perjury involved on his Form 4473s?

Sorry for being ignorant, and I admit I haven't been very well informed lately, so if someone can address this question for me, I'd appreciate it.

“I hope and pray I will never again be in a position where I am asked questions about selling items used in a crime,”

This just kind of got me . For some reason , I have never seen the media question car dealers about the vehicle that was used to run down innocent civilians

http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4188/is_20051125/ai_n15877235
Ford, diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic with violent tendencies, had been treated and released by seven different hospitals before coming to Reno in 1980, where she'd lived for a short time in 1973
. But , she could still buy that rolling death machine and no one seemed to question the dealer about it .

Funny how if it involves firearms , a dealer/store is more responsible for what a person has done with a legally purchased item than any other retailer/ distributer .

And looking at the Web site.. it seems as though they obviously have acknowledged what's happened. A banner here for the shootings at NIU.
Hopefully the owner realizes what a stupid mistake he made "acknowledging" a role in what happened.
