Are you ready for the most fun since you took off your training wheels? Can you ride a bike? Can you shoot a pistol? Do you want to ride a bike and shoot a pistol? If yes, then you're at the right place... the place for a bike-N-shoot race.

First Saturday of every February, April, June, August, October, and December

This timed competition will involve 3 laps on a mountain bicycle, of approximately 2.5 miles each, on rolling prairie terrain.

Each lap to be followed by five shots from a pistol at steel targets approximately 6†dia from a distance of 20 yards.

Each miss will accrue a short penalty lap.

Men' s (expert and amateur), Women's, and Youth classes. *

Entry fee for contestants is $10, Spectators are $5/carload.

Notes:

* Very little in the way of facilities is available. Bring water. Dress appropriately for the weather.
* Any pistol may be used, as long as it fires PISTOL caliber ammunition, and is equipped with only open sights.
* After shooting, your support crew -- if any -- is permitted to reload for you.
X Classes dependant on attendance.
* Pistols may be carried during the riding phase, or left in the shooting area. Carried guns must be unloaded.
* Eye and ear protection required while shooting. Helmet required while riding.
* All shots will be fired from a standing position.
X The prairie contains cactus and goatheads. It is NOT smooth. Prepare accordingly.


Entries accepted up to the start of the event. Awards for the winners, men’s and women’s classes.

One week to go...

After being mudded out 2 times in a row, we held the 9th Bike-n-Shoot on Saturday, Aug 6th. We had 6 participants, including 3 newbies, 2 adults and 1 youth. In spite of the recent rain, the course was dry, and the dust was kept down. James M. and I mowed the range area, and the first ¼ mile or so of the course, but didn’t check the whole course, and discovered on race day, that a significant part of it had waist-high weeds from the recent rainfall. Probably should have mentioned the need for the riders to bring a machete for use on the first lap.
The dried grass, however, proved too much for Lynnes allergies, and she was forced to retire with a nasty asthma attack.
New youth rider Max Simikat is moving over from BMX to BNS, and rode the event on his Mongoose BMX bike, and shot using a .357 pistol. I imagine there is now some agitation for a suspended mountain bike, and, since I let him try mine, a Ruger .22.

Miss 1,2, and 3 is the number of targets missed on each leg. E.T. is in minutes. Note that Jordan is a youth rider, and had he not thrown a chain, which Cliff graciously helped him with, he would have finished 3rd. Youth riders have had the option of shooting a .22 rifle, with open sights, but this looks like too much of an advantage. In the future, unless there’s a big demand for rifles from the youth, they will shoot pistols, just like everybody else. I’ve seen Jordan shoot a pistol. This will not be much of a handicap for him.
