Cold steel sues CRKT.

Lynn Thompson does this to whip up some marketing attention. He has previously gotten into locker room measuring contests with others - like, Strider. Once the publics attention was on those in the spotlight he then introduced a knife that shared many of the same features as Striders fixed blade - for about 15% the price. The issue IIRC was what was affordable to a soldier deploying overseas.

The real answer is most soldiers don't carry fixed blades, and a lot of commanders in non combat units -which are 90% of the force - don't allow them. So it was a bogus argument from the beginning, same as this. Define virtual.

I suspect CS will come out next with a copy of the LAWKS that is borderline infringing on the patent. That would be typical.

They do make some good products - but as long as Lynn Thompson remains in charge it only adds to the difficulty of marketing the products after he's gone. Entrepreneurs usually put their company in a bad position just before they retire and the organization rarely survives because responsibility was never parceled out fully and delegated. A good marketing manager would have known not to do this.

I'VE used all of CS's old style pocket knives and the Trailmaster in three different steels, plus the Laredo in CV steel without a single problem ATALL. Last week I inadvertently banged the TM O1 into a wrought iron hanger I forgot was there with a full power swing while cutting heavy foliage and it did NOT even mark the TM's blade. That is a tough knife that has never done anything less than it was designed for with less than full expectation. It came exceedingly sharp and it still so with noly tough up's after every use.
I like Lynn Thompson too as he tells it like he sees it and minces no words while also suffering no fools.
And so it goes...

IANAL, but unless one of their people was injured as a result of a CRKT knife failing to deliver on the claim in the advertising - said claim including the word "virtually" as discussed in earlier posts - I'm having a hard time seeing how Cold Steel even has standing to sue, much less claim damages.

It would be like Chevrolet - maker of the Corvette - filing suit against Ford for saying one of it's new Mustangs was "one of the quickest American cars made."

So much for open law in the U.S. Confidential agreements preclude the publics right to open courts.

They also hinder case precedence. People can be trying the same issues again and again without knowing if the issues have ever been previously resolved.

Maybe not so much in this case, but if there are dangerous products, conditions, etc., the public should have a right to know, and not have it hid behind a legal veil protecting only the companies involved. Too much of this lately. :fire:

If the case is between company A and Company B they are the ones to have rights regarding knowledge of the case. If it were say US v Whosit, the public would have the right to know after the case via the FOIA.

Being settled means it never got settled BY the court.

I've merged the original CS vs. CRKT thread and the Settlement threads so people understand the lawsuit was just over advertising language and not any actual product infringement or safety issues.

Based upon his past and current media and courtroom antics...

I have one word for CRKT regarding this nonsense and I type with hope...

Countersuit!

Todd.

We don't often close threads in NFW, but since the out of court settlement won't be shared with the public there's nothing more to learn.
