Cold Weather Chrony

I've been using a shooting chrony alpha master for three years, but it seems like it doesn't like to work when the weather starts to turn cold. Basically, once it's below 45 F or so the electronics get a little weird, sometimes it doesn't turn on. Tried new batteries but it doesn't seem to help. As long as it's over 50 F the chrony works fine.

So, do any of you chrony in cold weather? What chronographs do you use?
 
I have a Shooting Chrony, and haven't had problems down to 40F.

What does certainly happen is that your readings will go down if you have the diffusers in place and a cloud starts to obscure the sun.
 
I've got an el cheapo ($100) chrony I've had for about 5 yrs., and it has worked fne in hot or cold. The only issue I've encountered is using it in low light, early morning or late afternoon when the sun is either setting or just on the rise. Have you looked to see if it's maybe fogging up between taking it out of the warm car to the cold enviroment?
 
UncleNick & I had a discussion on this last Winter concerning readings on a Oehler 35 below freezing. His advice was to change to Lithium batteries, and I haven't had to worry about anything since.

(If you really feel paranoid, power it up with two Lithiums in parallel.)
