Colt 1861 Navy or Repro ??

Folks, a friend inherited a Colt 1861 Navy, no doubt it matches that revolver, but the question is..., is this possibly an original or is it some sort of knock-off from the '60's?

The serial numbers, which are matching, are in an old font and are in the 85,000 range, but I thought Colt only made 38,000 of these?

You are correct. 1st Generation Colt 1861 Navies were serial numbered from 1 through 38843. Your friend has a replica.

Nope. 2nd Gens only went to SN 48000. Pictures and/or description of all markings on it would help.

OR.... are you sure it is an 1861 Navy and not an 1851 Navy? Again, pictures would go a long way in deciding what it actually is.

I haven't a clue what LD is asking. Knock off from the sixties? Are there any proof marks because any 'knock off' from the sixties or seventies or whatever decade would have a proof mark on it.
