Looking at a 1903 Colt 98% #514490 made 1934 very nice gun with two tone mag and walnut grips. All original asking price $795.00. Would this be a fair price?

I looked it over and the finish is a nice blue, not reblued and not the older bright blue. All the roll marks look right & crisp with sharp edges. The magazine is original - two tone, marked colt .32 on the bottom plate as is the walnut grips with Colt medallions. The barrel is bright, no pitting. All the small parts look right. Is there something else I should be looking for? BTW : The dealer guarantees it to be 100% original or money back. Can't beat that.

$795 seems a little high but the pistol seems to have it's original finish and it appears you have the papers that came with it which are themselves fairly rare. If it has the original box then $795 is a good price. Two other things to check on are the thumb safety and the slide. The safety latch is one of the first things to go so make sure it engages properly and stays engaged. The frame and slide sometimes have cracked due to people shooting too much of the hotter, modern .32's. Quite frankly, I don't think either of those will be a problem since it doesn't look like it has seen too much use.

These are great pistols, the level of workmanship that went into them will never be seen in a production pistol again.
