I have seen several NIB Colt 2nd gen Walkers listed on GB.com recently priced in the $1800 to $1950 range. I mean these aren't engraved, special, or cased---just regular 2nd gen Colt black powder pistols in the Black box.

Are these sellers dreaming or is this the going price for this model? One has been relisted several time and no one seem to be biting.

I know Colt probably didn't produce as many of these as the other models, but those asking prices are more than 3 times the going average price for a NIB 2nd gen Dragoon. (3rd model)

Of course then I still haven't gotten used to a Coke costing more than a nickel, so maybe it's just that I'm living in the past.:D

Cheers

I think the sellers are looking to get as much as they can for the revolvers. Too much if you ask me.

Do you get charged to post things on GB like you do e-bay?

It seems you can post really high things on GB and just let em ride and hope some one will take the bait.

I wouldnt mind a walker if they had one that didnt have that dropping load lever problem.

Ide rather have an Old Army first.

I've only bought a few items on GB and never tried to sell anything, but I did look at their fee schedule. There is no fee for a basic sales listing, but they do offer some additional showcasing apps for minimal fees.

Other than that they collect a fairly small fee percentage of the final price.

They take 5% of the first $25 or $1.25
Next $975 they get 2.5%
After that it drops to 1.25%

According to an example on their fee page, if you sold something for $1500, you'd pay a commission of $31.88.

Ebay is also offering free basic listings now because they have jacked their commission up to 10% on the first $2500 of any sale. In the example given they would hit you for $150 commission on $1500.

Neither site charges if your items don't sell, and you can relist indefinitely for free.

I knew about EBay because I just sold some stuff on there last week and got an invoice today for $90 on $900 worth of items sold.

I just don't think anybody is foolish enough to pay that kind of money for a Colt 2nd gen black powder that you'd be afraid to shoot. Not when you can find a used Uberti in great condition for $300 or so.

Cheers

If you're an optimist and are willing to eat some fees, a well designed sale on GB at an absurdly high price is likely to deliver above market returns. You buy a Gen 2 NIB Colt Walker at a gun show for $800. You put it on GB for $1300. It sells 4 months later. 50% return (assuming $100 in fees, which is high) beats the market and the bank.

As PT Barnum said, you can fool some of the people some of the time.

Although high, I can see people paying possibly $1,300, but not $1950 unless it's somebody with more money than sense.

The "fool some of the people" quote is attributed to Abraham Lincoln, but the sentiment is still correct.

Barnum said: "Every crowd has a silver lining", so he was in agreement.

For that money, for a shooter, you'd be better off sending a late model Uberti to Turnbull for refinishing. Quality would be the same if not better and the finish would definitely be better. You'd still have money leftover.

They're dreaming. Colt made 2921 2nd Gen Walkers which was more than the number of 2nd (2551) or F series 3rd (2731) Model Dragoons (not including the commemoratives & limited editions, and there were 3770 C Series 3rd Model Dragoons made). Blue Books says NIB condition is worth $1100. In the last year, six 2nd Gen Walkers sold on GB. Price ranged between $505 for a model that had some handling marks and a scratched barrel; and, $1099 for one NIB. A cased pair with 2nd Gen accessories went for $2200.

The one listed for $1960 has been on GB for at least 3 years. With inflation, they ought to be within the average price range around 2030.

LOL! Thanks Fingers, that makes more sense.

I guess I got a decent deal a couple of weeks ago when I picked up this NIB Signature model along with a boxed set of the matching accoutrements, all the paper work plus a custom French fitted Oak case for the every thing.

I know the signatures are not as favored as the 2nd gens, but the one I got is tight as a drum with a great fit and finish. The 2nd gens had their issues for me. Back in the late 70's I had to return two 1860 Armies in a row until I got one that that functioned decently out of the box.

Here's a pic from the Walker thread--scroll down to post #3567

I got it for $850 total. Heck the custom case, which is patterned after an actual known example, costs $275 by itself, so I figure that I have less than $600 in the pistol, flask, mold, wrench, and cap box.

Cheers

Ya done real good on that setup FO. I've always liked that case for a Walker instead of the Sig Series "one size doesn't fit or look right for all" cases that were available.

Thanks, and I totally agree about the Signature cases--they were cheesy and never looked quite right.

Cheers

I just received a Signature 1860 with all the gold plating that is beautiful. I have two Second Generations, an 1851 Navy C-Series and an 1862 Navy that I shoot. I love these guns.

A 'C' series 51' Colt Navy and you shoot her!!! Fingers and Dalton, what are you guys doin???? :what:;)

I would love to get my hands on a 'C' series 51' (at a good price) but all I can find are the 'F' series. Oh well.:(

What do you consider to be a good price? There are always some listed on GB. In the last year, more than 50 have sold on GB. Prices ranged between $400 and a ridiculous $1375 (for a cased set). There have been around 10 or 12 that sold between $400 and $500; almost all NIB. Ya just gotta keep checking GB. I check it daily for good deals.

That's just it, I'm not registered on Gunbroker, but I am registered on AuctionArms and I just never see the 'C' series Colts just either the 'F' series or the 3rd Generation Colts.
But that's OK as I have one Black Box, 2nd Generation 'F' series 51' Navy that just sit in its glass case that hasn’t been cocked or turned since I’ve owned it. The previous owner said he didn't either. I just don't use it as I bought an 1860 Army with its R&D cylinder from Taylor's & Company that I use for almost everything. I haven't put it down; well I refinished the grips on it, since I bought it. All summer and fall I hunted groundhog/coyote and small game with the 'Holy' black and just finished up deer hunting with it using the R&D cylinder loaded with 45 Schofield.

But I would like to buy a ‘C’ series Colt to add to my collection. :)
