yesterday I was at my local sheriff's office, while I was there I got in to a conversation with a deupty, he said he had an old colt cap and ball pistol that belonged to his grandfather. his grandfather carried it in the
"war of northen aggression"
He is supposed to call me with the info (make,model,s/n) to see if I can find the value of it. He said it was in great cond. with strong markings.
I am not sure if he wants to sell or is just looking for a value on it.
I have done a little searching with what info I have, but I am looking for some places that can help me track down anything about it.
thanks for the help

Come back when you get the information (make, model, serial number, etc.) and we can probably tell you a lot. A good picture(s) would help too. :D

I'm 57 yrs old, and my grandfather wasn't even a gleam in his daddy's eye until long after the "War Between the States". He was born in 1879.

Gotta call BS on this'n, unless the person making the statement happens to be in his late 80's or older. He might well own a well-used original, but I sincerely doubt that his grandpappy was old enough to have served in the Late Unpleasantness. Frankly, my grandfather's father wasn't born until 1855, and his daddy was killed at the Battle of Franklin, TN.

it very well could be BS but, I have known this guy most all of my life and he is a stand up guy who is close to his 70's. and if his dad had him late in life........ the time line would be close, Like I said before he is not out to make money he justs wants a little background
I am 39 my father was born in 1930, and my grandfather was born in the late 1800's. now you add the 30 something years my friend is older than I am.....
its not completly unbeliveable.
hopefully he will get me the info soon, and we will find out :)
