Greetings,
Finally am sending my Colt Det Sp to C&S for a super action job tomorrow. I anticpate this fine revolver to be on my ccw this spring. I was checking web sites of holster manufacturers and did not see a leather paddle with thumb break holster for the Colt Det Sp. Presently I have a Bianchi belt fed, but it's time consuming, and the belt does not fit thru easily.
Definitely I do not want an inside the waist band holster; just do not see how people wear those without buying two sizes of pants.
Hume makes a nice holster, but it's open top, not thumb break.
I am sure there are some companies that make quality leather for this very common revolver; just need to know who it is.

I carry Colt DS all the time. I like Uncle's Mike hip holster. It rides high on the huo outside the belt. It's made of some kind of durable material. Very good for my needs. About 15 to 20 dollars. Check one out at the local gun store.
Hey, You got to let us know how the DS turns out after an action job by C&S. Mine action job was done by Colt. It's as smooth as glass. Love it. I can't say enough good things about it.:)

I been hanging my Colt snubbies from an Original Jackass for 25 years. Galco makes them now. Goes on and off like a vest. I have been known to carry one gun each side! Charter Bell Oak makes an interesting Colt DS holster based on Chick Gaylords old designs as does Null.

My Colt Cobra travels in a Hume JIT Slide. No thumb break however.
If your interested in a paddle style with thumb break check with FIST Inc. www.fist-inc.com
They'll make you just about anything and tailor it to your specs.

Check DeSantis as well. They have a very large selection of thumb break paddle holsters.
Take Care

I use a pocket holster from Lou Alessi for my Detective Special. It has worked well and is pretty easy to use. I also like the ones from High Noon Holsters and my HNH holsters stick in the pocket bettwer than the ones from Lou.

picked a holster

Was on the net for quite some time; just did not find a paddle with thumb break except for one company; and then I decided on a Hume Double Nine for use with a belt. Looks like I'll just deal with the belt issue; seems that it would be good for ccw as it will be held more tightly to hip than a paddle type. This kind has the belt slots fore and aft for good retention.
It should be ready in a month, about the time C&S finishes the super acttion job.

Natchez shooting supply has a Bianchi speed scabbard on sale for $33 in tan or black, right hand.. not sure if that model for the DS has a retention screw or not.. but for that price I'm ordering one.

I bought a nice horizontal shoulder holster from Bianchi. The DS rides horizontally under my right arm for a very quick draw. Two speedloaders reside in a pouch under my right arm. I also have two speedstrips in my breast pockets. The harness is comfortable to wear for long hours and it all conceals well under a light jacket.

Sixgun,
Is your Bianchi shoulder holster the x-15 agent or the 7700 series? Had not thought of shoulder holster, but now am considering getting one in addition to the Hume I ordered. I used to wear an ill-fitting shoulder holster for our S&Ws and M9s under an AF flight suit. They were purchased from the lowest bidder.

I got the agent holster/harness which takes some adjusting to fit just right. You will need a friend to help you adjust it as you try it on.

I recommend the straps that attach to the belt from the holster and speedloader pouch as it keeps everything from flopping about. When worn under a sportcoat or light jacket, everything is well concealed and easy to draw.

Chief:

Thanks for starting this thread, I'm in the process of searching for the same thing and for me it's very timely.

How about "acquiring" a nice survival vest? The crossdraw M9 is always fun, just a bit bulky. :)

Can't go wrong with a holster from Alessi, either an ankle or a belt style.

For less money but not quite the same level, DeSantis makes some good belt holsters for the DS.
