I have been offered a Nickel Colt Commando in trade for a Kahr CW9

I am looking for a ccw revolver and was looking at 642s and the like (had a 642 and regret selling it)...
what can you revolver gurus tell me about this Commando model

this is the picture from the sellers ad
1755154.gif

is it collectible, (which i dont want..im looking for an everyday carry gun)

im more concerned about the fact that it is mid 40's vintage

what say you THRers

The Colt Commando revolver shown in the phot is an obvious refinish.
Never saw an original in other then the 'parkerized' finish.
Had plenty of thes in our shop next to NYC Police HQ during the 1950's. They were used extensivly in NYC PD, mostly in 4" barrel.

The Commander revolver was a parkerized Official Police made during WWII. They were made in a hurry and did not have the loving hand-fitting that Colts are known for.

Obviously someone plated the old girl.

I would not make the trade.

Other Colts have better hand-fitting of the lockwork.
There are lots of great Detective Specials out there
I am not a fan of shiny guns and ESPECIALLY of shiny guns that were not made that way at the factory
Your Kahr is worth more

+1

Looks Rode hard and put away wet, with a lousy plating job.

Don't walk away.
Run!!!!

well you guys have reaffirmed my initial gut feeling...thanks again

im gonna have to tell the guy thanks but no thanks

BTW

I LOVE old Colt revolvers. I have one on my hip as I write this and just send FFL info for another that I just bought. (the auction ended during the SuperBowl so I had nobody there to outbid me at the end )

While a Kahr CW9 may not engender as much pride in ownership, it is an outstanding, easily concealed weapon. So remember that you WANT a revolver to carry, but you don't need one.
