I'm eyeing a nice vintage Colt Official Police .38 Spl. for a summer carry piece in a shoulder rig. I believe it is an "E" frame of the first or second generation. It seemed to be similar in dimensions to the S&W .357 at the shop, which I believe was a beefed up K frame. The condition is good and price is $200.

Does anyone know if the OP w/ 4" barrel would slide into a S&W K frame leather holster, or some other holster?

I see no problems. It will fit a generic holster. A S&W specific holster might not retain/secure the pistol properly.

The frame/cylinder size should be close enough to work in a K-frame holster.

If the holster you choose has a thumb break you need to try the gun in the holster to ensure the satety strap fits properly.

First of all, if the gun is in good condition there is no reason to not carry it.

So far as holster go, the frame is larger then S&W's "K" size, and a properly made holster should be too small. Look at something designed for the Python or S&W 686. However check out the fit carefully.

Look for a Python or Trooper holster. Same frame size. Great guns but a little heavy for a .38 Special. If you like it go for it.
