I looked today at a colt police positive special in 38sp and I never been a big revolvers but this one caught my eye I looked at it I was quite impressed and it was a 4in barrel model felt great in my hand. The cylinder was tight the hammer was smooth I didn't look at it much but it got me to thinking I been looking for a pistol and I am really thinking get this one they want 250 is that around what they are going for or to high I know nothing much on colt revolvers thanks

Anything that says Colt and a dancing Pony on it that works, and still has a trace of finish left on it is at least a $200 gun.

But usually a $250 - $300 gun.

Or a $400 gun if the finish is still nice.

The finish was the best nor the worst if its still there after Christmas I might just buy it my birthday is exactly 2 weeks after Christmas so I might get it as a birthday presents. How would it be say if I wanted to carry it I been thinking about getting my permit but I don't have A pistol I want to carry and I have kinda forgot about buying one but I saw that one and it has got me to to thinking. I mostly would want to carry when I'm hunting or fishing that's like most for snakes pretty much all I would carry it for thanks

I have a Colt like you described. It has the smoothest double action trigger pull I've ever felt. At that price, I'd grab it.

The Colt Police Positive Special is as the name implies an iconic police service revolver, if you chose to carry it you would have;

1. one of the finest .38 Special service revolvers ever made
2. not the easiest weapon to conceal but reasonable with everything but light summer clothing, possible even then.
3. if in good condition mechanically, also a reasonable expectation of durability and long service. Carrying it will additionaly wear the finish
-and-
4. a concern that if there are ever mechanical or any gunsmithing related issues you will have the devil's own time finding the parts and the qualified 'smith. Expect that to be pricey too.

I envy your dilemma as I am a true fan of the prancing pony.

The Police Positive Special was Colt's lighter-weight version of the traditional .38 Spl. police revolver. The more-robust Official Police was probably seen more often in the holsters of active police.

That said, the Police Positive Special is a great gun. I find the PPS to be fairly easy to conceal. It's really nothing but a Detective Special with a longer barrel.

As the others said, $250 is a steal for a Colt Police Positive Special. I would buy it in a second at that price.

I've had a Positive Special and currently have Police Positives in .32 Long and 38 s&W/colt New Police. Both are "new" tight and both are extremely fine shooters also light and easy to carry. It is common to find Colts that have developed carry-up /timing problems so, I shoot my sparingly
