If given a choice between a Colt pre-ban M4-A3 Carbine (.223) and a pre-ban Colt SP1 AR15 (also .223), which would you choose and why?

No such thing as a pre ban M4

Well, that's how the seller has it listed and frankly I don't have enough experience with these models to know whether it's an accurate description. Up to now I've stuck to bolt actions and lever guns. However I've had the itch to buy a semi-auto Colt rifle for quite a while and since my handgun selections are few and far between (@#%& Maryland) I'm thinking of treating myself to one of those beauties instead.

I think I would wait til September, and get a new one.

I know what you mean, but nothing is ever guaranteed. So far the Democrats haven't been able to muster enough votes to renew the ban but who's to say that some Republicans, fearing that opposition to the ban might endanger their re-election chances, won't change their votes?

Anyway, I don't want to change the character of this thread to purely a political discussion of the possibility of a renewal because my main point is to seek informed opinions on the respective merits of each model.

The SP1 is the one I would get. Like WildAlaska said, the M4 is a parts gun and not original. It's your money. :)

No brainer: I'd get the SP1.

Longer sight radius, more velocity, more reliable gas system, and with that light weight barrel, not much heavier. Does it have triangle handguards? I love that retro look.

1/12 twist, not good for heavy bullets: shoot 55grain M193 through it and no problemo.
