Colt Temptation

I ran into a Colt Official Police with a 6" barrel, It appeared to be in 98-99% condition, lockup was tight. The bluing almost to good to be original ? All of the visible action parts appeared new, there is a vary slight turn ring on the cylinder. The only thing that seemed off was the cylinder latch was polished (the part unseen when the cylinder is closed) This gun has a hammer mounted firing pin, what is it's youngest age ? The asking price was $269 the tag was mis-marked as a Colt Officer so there could be some more wiggle room on the price

Do you remember if the sides of the hammer were blued?

The Colt Official Police was made from 1927 to 1969.
You do still see them in like-new condition.

From 1927 to the early 1960's the Official Police was essentially just that....THE "official" police revolver for the majority of law enforcement.

Excellent revolvers. Same lock-work as the Python. Takes the same stocks, too.

The 6" is not as sought after as the 4" and 5" models but still good shooters. For a gun in the condition you describe that price is very good. If we had the serial we could narrow down the age.

Well here's the catch, to justify the purchase I would sell a S&W M 10-5 6" I am not that attached to this M 10 and I would prefer the Colt, but I really want a Colt Officer mod

No. Why ?

I forgot to mention the Colt has Pachmayr grips.

Most (all?) of the sides of the hammers were unfinished from the factory. If you're not experienced at picking out a reblue (and I'm not) that's something that's easy to pick up.

Sell the 10. Buy the Colt. The Official Police is a great gun.

Too bad about the Pachmayrs. Great to shoot, but the original stocks look very nice.

I went back for another look, this Colt had been re-blued. For now the price is firm so I will pass, if it were the Officers mod. I would buy it. Thanks for the input. jj
