colt woodsman field stripping

How is a colt woodsman stripped for cleaning? My friend has one but does not know how to remove the slide. Any tips appreciated.

Taking apart is not as big a problem as putting back together. I have a Colt Woodsman in a bag that I field stripped about a year ago that I got so frutrated at I just put into a bag and put up.

I am going to make another run at it tomorrow.

Just in case you have an old (pre-WWII) gun, check to see if the upper end of the backstrap has a checkered oval or lines running across. If it has the oval, it is for standard velocity .22 LR only, not high speed or modern hot loadings. (The top of the backstrap is the stop for the slide.)

At one time, Colt would sell new type backstraps, but those days are long gone.
